Interview with Evan Sneider, star of Girlfriend

June 10, 2011

The film Girlfriend premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last fall with the distinction of being the first feature film to star an actor with Down syndrome.  Writer and director Justin Lerner went to high school with Evan Sneider, the young man who inspired the film and was then cast in the leading role.  This past week, George Stroumboulopoulos interviewed Evan on CBC about his experience as an actor and as a young man with Down syndrome. Click here to see the full interview.

Girlfriend looks absolutely riveting.  An indie film, it is making the rounds at theatre festivals this summer. Here’s hoping it will be available to mainstream audiences one day soon!

Just loved the interview. He is so inspiring and absolutely delightful. I read that the film will be released in Canada (not sure how widespread) in September 2011. Can’t wait to see it!
