Hello! My name is Heather and I’m the creator of this site.  I work as a librarian in a public library, and I’m also the mother of two young children, a son who is 7 and a daughter who is  3.  When my daughter was born in 2008, we were surprised to find out that she had Down syndrome.  Immediately I took to the internet to find out more information about DS and the various health conditions that go along with it.  I confess that when I started googling, I was often shocked and saddened by the outdated, insensitive and biased postings about DS that are available on the web.

As a librarian, one of my tasks is to help connect our customers with appropriate resources, and that is what I hope this site will do for those of you who are seeking understanding and knowledge.  Through it, I would like to create a virtual pathway to some of the finer books, videos, and websites that will help us in our job as parents.  I also hope to include suggestions on how libraries can better serve families who have a child with Down syndrome or customers who have Down syndrome themselves.

Please bear with me as this is a work in progress, but I do hope to continually add to the list of resources. I absolutely welcome comments on the postings if you have personal experience of the items that you would like to share.

Thank you for reading and welcome!
